According to the recent study by the University of Oxford, it has been found that vegetarians and vegans do have a low risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) but are more likely to suffer from stoke than the people who are meat eaters. Researchers did their research on around 48,188 people who were in the age range from 18 years to 45 years of age. From these above people 24, 428 were meat-eaters, 7, 506 people were pescetarians vegans including vegetarians were 16,525. All the people did not have any history of stroke or CHD.
It has been observed that the people who are meat-eaters are more likely to have more cholesterol levels and hence people are more prone to CHD and strokes than those people who are vegetarians. In this case 10 cases per 1,000 people are lesser in vegetarian people as compared to that of meat-eaters. This following research did take place for over two decades were the diet of the people and also eating habits of the people were observed. Factors like demographic characteristics, lifestyle smoking also did play a vital role in this research. Through these factors also, it was observed that pescetarians have 13% less risk of CHD as compared to vegetarians who have 22% lower risk of CHD. But it has also been said that vegetarians and vegans are more likely to suffer from stroke than those who eat meat. There was no substantial higher level of stroke rate in pescetarians. Though the exact reason was not given for this particular fact, it has been observed that vitamin B12 levels are significantly low in vegetarians and vegans than the meat-eaters.
The researchers have also said that all these predictions were taken from mainly white Europeans so the results might change as per other people around the globe. This study was taken just from UK, so the study about other people across the globe can change according to their lifestyle patterns and eating habits.
